Code of conduct

TL;DR

  • FOSS Community United is committed to providing a respectful and harassment-free workspace for all members.
  • Discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other characteristic is not tolerated.
  • Members are expected to be respectful, professional, and considerate in their interactions with others.
  • Offensive or inappropriate behavior, including but not limited to verbal or physical abuse, will not be tolerated.
  • Misuse of the community resources will not be tolerated.
  • Violations of the code of conduct may result in consequences, including expulsion from the community or event.

Introduction

FOSS Community United is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive community for individuals interested in free and open-source software. We strive to create an environment where people feel comfortable learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating with one another. As a member of FOSS Community United, we ask that you abide by the following code of conduct to maintain a positive and supportive community.

Expected Behavior

  • Respectful and Inclusive Language: FOSS Community United welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We ask that you use respectful and inclusive language in all interactions with others.
  • Open-Mindedness: FOSS Community United is a place for discussion and exploration of ideas. We encourage open-mindedness and the willingness to learn from others.
  • Collaboration: FOSS Community United is built on the foundation of collaboration. We value cooperation and teamwork in all our endeavors.
  • Constructive Criticism: We welcome constructive criticism and feedback, as long as it is given respectfully and with the intent to improve.
  • Professionalism: FOSS Community United expects all members to behave professionally in all interactions with others, both online and offline.
  • Cleanliness: While eating food is allowed, members are expected to clean up after themselves and maintain a clean workspace.
  • Personal Belongings: Members are expected to take care of their personal belongings and not leave them unattended.
  • Sleeping in Cabin: If you are a hostler, sleeping in the cabin is not allowed.
  • Keys: Keys to the workspace can only be handled by the maintainer.
  • Putting items back in place: Members are expected to put chairs or other items back in their place after use.
  • Collaborative Work: Work in collaboration with other members.
  • Proper Use of Workspace: Entertainment and other activities should only take place during their allotted time and should not disrupt other members. Bunking the classes and sitting in the workspace is not allowed.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors will not be tolerated in FOSS Community United:

  • Harassment: FOSS Community United has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or ragging of any kind, including but not limited to verbal or written comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or physical appearance.
  • Discrimination: FOSS Community United is an inclusive community that values diversity. Discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or physical appearance will not be tolerated.
  • Intimidation: We do not tolerate any behavior that is intended to intimidate, harass, or threaten others.
  • Inappropriate Language: FOSS Community United has a zero-tolerance policy for the use of inappropriate language, including but not limited to profanity or derogatory language.
  • Disrespectful Behavior: We expect all members to treat each other with respect and to refrain from any behavior that is disrespectful, harmful, or disruptive.
  • Misuse of the Workspace: Sitting in the workspace during class timings is not allowed except for the permission of the HoD.

Enforcement

If a member of FOSS Community United engages in behavior that violates this code of conduct, the following steps will be taken:

  • The member will be notified of the violation and given a warning.
  • If the behavior persists, the member may be suspended or banned from FOSS Community United.
